Hey all,
First off a couple of quick wins/reminders –
-
EIFs now trigger red flag icon to board
-
ED Metabolism plans were reviewed with the Metabolism team and updated
-
The ‘Home Med’ triage review activity (marking meds due, etc) has been fixed- look for those icons
-
If the surgical service places admit orders before you put in a bed request, those orders request a bed
-
They should communicate with you
-
You should place a bed request if they haven’t done their admit orders already (You’ll know because status will be purple)
-
If they place admit orders, the status colors obey usual workflow – meaning if you see a yellow box you didn’t place, they probably put in admit orders
-
A couple of struggles to be aware of (that we are actively trying to fix!)
-
Trainees/APP sometimes need to ‘share’ their note before being able to send notes to Attendings a note to co-sign (EPIC investigating)
-
Medical Student notes don’t always behave and sometimes linger even when signed (close to fixing)
-
Consult reports occasionally hitting the inbasket inappropriately (close to fixing)
-
Some Billing reminders missing (trying to fix) (But every ED/BH note should always be followed by dropping a bill in workflow)
And now some good new stuff!
——————————————
1) Attending attesting/co-signing procedure/POCUS/EKG notes – the smartphrase to help complete documentation is now easily searchable
-
EDATTPROCATTEST
\
It opens a smartlist with the usual options regarding procedures/POCUS/EKG attestation statements.
——————————————
2) Storyboard functionality – akin to the antiquated ‘banner bar’, the storyboard (left column when in the chart) has valuable information such as critical contingencies, EIFs, Isolation status, and even important medical info (like Ketogenic Diet)
Moreover, just hovering over the bar on the storyboard opens the Crit Conting or EIF making it easier to read and find (and not comb through the documents)
——————————————
3) The Care Area column – do trainees have a hard time remembering which room is on what team? Do you? Be honest!
They (or you) can wrench in the ‘Care Area’ column. This then shows what team the patient is on.
If people think this is a big win, let us know and we could add as a default!
——————————————–
4) The Future !
-
Abnormal weight flags
-
Improved ‘Expired patient’ workflow
-
Adding serum HcG to abd pain orderset
-
Ever-improving sepsis crawler
—————————————
As always, thank you all for your patience and in your continued feedback as we tweak the system!
Your Epic team,
AJC, JKC, and MBH
