Epic ASAP 🚑Weekly Update

A few (5) updates for the team!

  1. For our patients being admitted to surgical services 🔪or Neurology 🧠, the consulting residents’ Admit orders will place a bed request in the background if a bed request has not already been placed. It will automatically turn the Patient Status leftward column yellow and will automatically flip the Disposition to Admit, just as if we placed the bed request.
    1. For this situation, please do not place a new bed request for these patients if you do not need an adjustment in level of care! It will negate the COPP’s work for bed planning…. But if their inpatient destination needs to change (escalate from Neuro floor to ICU for example), a bed request would be appropriate.
    2. We are working on a pop-up/messaging to remind providers not to do that… stay tuned.
  2. Finish Up Fast Tab is being finicky re: Level of Service (billing) deficiencies for the attendings. The In-Basket should include all these required deficiencies… thanks for your patience, we are working on this … if you sign a note, you should also be signing a bill, and vice-versa
  3. BH Daily Progress Notes: if the ED Provider note is signed before 7a (even if same calendar day), the daytime NP/ED team will create a daily progress note during daytime shift.
  4. Looking to document the insulin plan? You can find it by typing either EDDiabetes or EDInsulin to get the correct smartphrase from our Diabetes SMEs
  5. Medical student notes should be fixed and routed to appropriate providers now/able to be edited/removed by attendings as needed.

We are working with our team to stabilize patient flow, safe medication ordering, confidence in our system re: efficiency and needed clinical tasks/make your lives easier… Thank you for your patience (I know it’s been 4+ months but… thank you for your extended patience)… Please continue to send ideas for clinical optimization to EDclinicalapps or your ASAP IT leads to bring to the team while we start to plan around optimization ‘sprints’!
