Hey folks and Happy Monday almost Tuesday!

Trying to get more regular with these, so maybe more frequent, but less long (otherwise known as shorter)!

Daily Schedule Huddle and Fegan

I WILL keep beating this drum. Please continue to discuss with charge RN the plan for the day in terms of opening/closing Fegan. The evening providers should probably be the ultimate deciders for the evening plan, but in general when we have 2 flex downstairs, the intent is for one of them to go to Fegan during these busy times.

Along those lines, as the bridge MD’s, it is okay and welcome for you to call down to charge RN 2 or 2.5 hours before the end of your shift to make a plan. This often helps remind them to get those patients up ASAP (and to avoid the dreaded 3:15AM bolus). It may also mean you need to slow them down. That’s okay too. Use your best judgement. Charge nurses are aware. Hit me up with questions.

Vaccine Clinic in ED Extension

Effectively immediately, the vaccine clinic is under construction and so will be using ED Extension to give vaccines. From 8a-5p they will take over the little exam room in the ED Extension waiting room. They have also taken over the supply room with some massive refrigerators (not for your leftover pizza).  Our supplies are still up there, just the other room.

New Stocking Push

As many of you may know or have noticed, Alex has been out and stocking, cleanliness/orderliness and equipment upkeep has suffered.  The nurses and CA’s have launched a new effort to address!! Please continue to:

  1. Write on the white board (by pharmacy) things that are missing/broken/out of stock
  2. Let Andy and me know about ongoing environment of care issues

Calling MRI

2nd drum beat. MRI is a limited resource in this hospital. We are not used to that, nevertheless, it’s true. MRI radiology attending will need to prioritize studies throughout the hospital based on urgency.  To mitigate that impact:

  1. Always, always, always call 5-6315 (MRI board runner) to get a sense of timing when you are ordering
  2. Consider CT if MR is going to take longer than you can wait
  3. May discuss with the radiology/neuroradiology attending who are listed in paging system

COVID Testing for Admissions

COVID testing is not required for all admissions. It IS required for any patient with respiratory symptoms (with or without fever) and fever without any other reason.  If there is fever and a reasonable source (UTI, cellulitis/abscess, etc) – no COVID testing is required.  This includes psych patients unless you are told otherwise (i.e. outside institution is requesting).

Okay, that’s it folks.

Questions, comments and concerns welcome!
